ROLECAST 010: Tittsworth – KRUNK001 Side B (Classic Hip-Hop Mix) by Role Models Podcast

This is Side B of Tittsworth’s classic KRUNK001 mix. Slowing it down from the club and house bangers on the flip, this side features a quick-moving mix of 80s/90s hip-hop hits with some quality but less well-known tunes slipped in. This will definitely bring you back! Think Notorious B.I.G.,House of Pain, Positive K ( I got a man!), Tribe, Wu, etc.

ROLECAST 009: Tittsworth – Classic Club Mix

ROLECAST 009: Tittsworth – KRUNK001 Side A (Classic Club Mix) by Role ModelsPodcast

Before Tittsworth was touring the world, headlining huge parties, playing international music festivals, or running one of the best dance clubs in the nation, he was a fixture of the Washington, DC and Baltimore rave and club scenes. One of the top local drum ‘n’ bass DJs, he played nearly every local venue, including small bars, warehouses, and internationally acclaimed weeklies like Buzz at Nation. Influenced by club and hip-hop, he eventually branched out, hosting his KRUNK dance party at the now-closed Singapore Bistro in DC and making Baltimore Club tracks. Titts was instrumental in Baltimore Club’s resurgence, first releasing vinyls on his own featuring, and eventually teaming up with DJ Ayres to form T&A Records, still going strong in 2012. Today he co-owns U Street Music Hall and continues to tour the world as a DJ while releasing a steady stream of dance-floor slaying dance tracks.

Titts has given us permission to re-release his 2004 mix-tape, KRUNK001, which he used to school unknowing DC and Baltimore clubbers in Baltimore Club, House, Miami Bass, Ghettotech, and Classic Hip-Hop. Pre-Serato, Side A provides a trip through his crates of club, house, and other “booty music.” The mix feature classic tracks ranging from well known bootybass pioneers like 2 Live Crew and DJ Assault to the house legend Cajmere to Baltimore Club classics by scene legends like DJ Technics and the Doo Dew Kidz. Enjoy this slice of DC/Bmore scene history and keep your eyes out for Side B, Titts’s take on classic hip-hop.

ROLECAST 005: Dan Amitai – I Thought I Heard Her Calling My Name

ROLECAST 005: Dan Amitai – I Thought I Heard Her Calling My Name by Role Models Podcast

Dan Amitai of Freeform DJs in DC put together a mix for us of a lot of music that has influenced him.  This is mix is out of control… in a good way.  I can say two things about Dan as a DJ which I believe 100%:

1. No one in the area sounds like him
2. Dan went from student to master DJ basically overnight.

Dan has influenced me and a lot of others in DC both in style and ethos. Listen to the master and enjoy the mix.

ROLECAST 003: mr. west – Back to Basics

This mix pays tribute to early to mid 90s classic house and techno. The tracklisting should speak for itself. Felt obliged to make this mix because techno’s influence is really begin felt now with the whole future bass thing and the way some dub step has moved.

I need to give special thanks to O.G. Baltimore DJ Chris Bulla of Modern Music fame who shared a handful of these songs online a ways back.

INFLUENCES: New York (Joey Beltram, Frankie Bones) Philly (Josh Wink), Baltimore (Chris Bulla)
